Give Praise to the Lord
Psalm 118 bursts with joy, thanksgiving, and the triumphant praise of God’s steadfast love. It is the final psalm of the Hallel (Praise) Psalms, which were sung by God’s people during the three required pilgrimage festivals, and especially during the Passover Feast. As the concluding Hallel Psalm sung after the Passover meal, when we read in Matthew 26:30, “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives,” it is likely that this psalm was sung by Jesus and the apostles on the night of His arrest. Its words call us to lift our voices, rejoice in salvation, and trust that God’s purposes prevail even when the world rejects Him.
