John 17 is one of my favorite passages in the New Testament. This is known as “The High Priestly Prayer.” Here, we read the words of Jesus praying to the Father for unity. As our High Priest, He prays for the protection and unity of His followers, and for all those who come to believe based on their testimony. And in noting how we are set apart from the world, Jesus states in John 17:16, “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.”
So if we are “not of the world,” how then should we live? This devotional study will focus in on 1 Corinthians 10:31: “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” So how then should we live? As Paul wrote to those in Corinth, our lives should be lived to the glory of God! Not some things. Not most things. Not things you do when feeling spiritual. Not things only of the mind or spirit. Not things only of the flesh. But everything. Whatever we do.
When you focus in on just the last phrase of 1 Corinthians 10:31, it may sound intimidating. But in context, this exhortation of Paul is freeing. And meant as a caution. Here, Paul addresses directly the issues of legalism. Legalism was a big part of the Judaism of Paul’s day. Before Christ, it was believed that following the Old Testament law in as exacting of a prescribed manner as one could was what was important. But when Christ fulfilled the law, we have been set free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:1-4).
The believers of Corinth knew this freedom in Christ, as we do. But much of how they were living their lives flirted with ways of living that abused this freedom. They were not living in a manner that glorified God. In many ways, one could say the same about many aspects of our lives today, nearly 2000 years later.
Join us this month as we study what it means to live a life for the Glory of God.

For the glory of God devotional kit
I am so blessed to have engaged in the tremendous devotional kit. Just seeing the Lion, which represents Jesus, how magnificent! I enjoy reading how He gets all the glory from us the matter what happens. Writing my thoughts in my journal gives me peace and joy. To God be the glory, just like the song says, for the things he has done.
